How to Make Resin Pendants: A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

Resin pendants are one of the most popular DIY jewelry projects today. With their glossy finish, endless design possibilities, and customizable look, resin pendants can be both beautiful and meaningful. Whether you want to create a gift, a fashion accessory, or simply explore a fun craft, making resin pendants is easier than you might think.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to make your own resin pendants, from materials to techniques, along with tips to ensure your finished pieces look professional.

What You Need to Make Resin Pendants

Before starting, gather all your materials. Here’s what you’ll need:

Epoxy resin and hardener (2-part resin)

Pendant molds (silicone molds work best)

Mixing cups and sticks

Gloves (to protect your hands)

Protective mask (for fumes)

Tweezers (for placing small items)

Pigments or alcohol inks (optional, for color)

Glitter, dried flowers, beads, or charms (optional, for decoration) ● Sandpaper or polishing tools (for finishing)

Necklace bails or jump rings (to attach the pendant to a chain)

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

Resin can be messy, so cover your surface with a plastic sheet or parchment paper. Ensure your area is well-ventilated, and wear gloves and a protective mask.

Have all your materials ready because resin sets quickly once mixed.

Step 2: Mix the Resin

Resin comes in two parts: resin and hardener. Follow the instructions on your product carefully — typically, it’s a 1:1 ratio

1. Pour the resin into a mixing cup.

2. Add the hardener.

3. Stir slowly for 2–3 minutes to prevent bubbles.

Tip: Stir slowly and scrape the sides to ensure both parts are fully combined. Avoid over-mixing, which can create bubbles.

Step 3: Add Color or Decorations (Optional)

Now you can get creative:

Pigments/Alcohol inks: Add a few drops to tint your resin.

Glitter: Mix in for sparkle.

Dried flowers, charms, beads: Place in the mold carefully with tweezers. Arrange your decorations before pouring the resin to control the final look.

Step 4: Pour the Resin into the Mold

Slowly pour the resin mixture into your pendant mold. Fill it to the top but avoid overflowing.

Tip: If bubbles appear, gently blow on the surface or use a toothpick to pop them. You can also lightly torch the resin with a heat gun for a glossy, bubble-free finish.

Step 5: Let It Cure

Resin needs time to harden:

Standard cure time: 24–48 hours, depending on the brand.

● Cover the mold with a box or container to prevent dust from settling. Do not touch the resin while it’s curing, or it may leave fingerprints.

Step 6: Remove and Finish the Pendant

Once the resin is fully cured:

1. Carefully remove the pendant from the mold.

2. Sand rough edges with fine-grit sandpaper.

3. Polish the surface if needed for extra shine.

Step 7: Attach Findings

Finally, attach a jump ring or bail to your pendant so it can be added to a chain or cord. Now your resin pendant is ready to wear or gift!

Tips for Perfect Resin Pendants

● Always work in a dust-free environment to avoid particles in your resin. ● Use gloves and masks to protect your skin and lungs.

● Avoid pouring too quickly — slow pouring reduces bubbles

● Experiment with layers for a 3D effect (pour, cure, add another layer). ● Store leftover resin in a sealed container for future use.

Why Resin Pendants Are Popular

Customizable: Colors, inclusions, and shapes can be personalized. ● Durable: Resin is strong and long-lasting.

Creative: Great for beginners and advanced crafters alike.

Perfect gifts: Personalize for birthdays, holidays, or keepsakes.

Making resin pendants is an enjoyable and rewarding craft. With a little patience and creativity, you can create unique pieces of jewelry that reflect your style or hold special memories. Once you master the basics, you can experiment with new shapes, layers, and decorations to make truly one-of-a-kind pendants.
